How Pond Bio Filters Work ... Articles List

Think of a biofilter as a simple box, any shape, it doesn't matter for most ponds. Inside this box is biomedia which is a fancy word for virtually any solid material on which bacteria can grow. Such material could be stone, plastic, cloth ... almost anything. The rougher the surface the better. The biofilter bacteria will live happily so long as the are fed (fish waste) and are supplied with oxygen (from pond pump circulating the water). Then they will do a great job of keeping pond water clean.
