Gravity bio pond filters for fish ponds ... Hozelock Cyprio Ecocel
The Hozelock Ecocel handles ponds up to 9,000 litres in volume but does NOT guarantee clear water. This si because the Ecocel units do not come equipped with an UVC (ultra violet light) as standard. It is a simple biofiltration unit and all biofilters are installed first and foremost to purify pond water to ensure fish stay alive.
Open cell foam used to mainly remove leaves, and larger particles of whatever can get into the pond filter. It has a limited amount of biological capacity. The units can be retrofitted with a Vortron UVC Made by Hozelock.
The Hozelock Ecocel Pond Filter is quite compact and one of the advantages over many other smilar box type filters is that it is easier to hide because both the inlet and outlets are close to the top of the box. This means the filter box can be buried into ground up to the inlet or outlet point. Water is pumped into the Ecocel through a spray head which helps to oxygenate the water entering the filter. As explained previously bacterial activity requires large amounts of oxygen. The foam inside the filter needs to be periodically cleaned.
| Max Flow | Outlet size mm | ||
| Eco-cel 2200 | 1100 | 40 | 20 - 40 |
| Eco-cel 9000 | 4500 | 2 x 40 | 20 - 40 |
WARNING bio filters do not clear green or murky ponds as many people claim. To ensure a clear pond an UVC is needed ... this kills suspended algae which can then be removed by the bio filter. While still living algae are very very very tiny and just pass straight the pond filter. In other words for a crystal clear garden fish pond you need BOTH a bio filter and an UVC or ultra violet clarifier
The UVC eliminates suspended green algae from the pond and makes it clear.
