Hozelock Ecopower units ranging form 2200 to 9000 litre pond size are affordable and effective Pond Filter & UVC combination systems that allow you to have clean and clear garden fish ponds all year round. The Ecopower products contains an integral Vortron UVC (ultra-violet clarifier) in the lid. In the USA this filter is called the Hozelock Ecostar and its units are expressed in gallons.

If we use the Hozelock Ecopower 2200 filter as an example the model number refers to the volume of pond water the biofilter is capable of cleaning and clearing (from suspended algae). Thus the Ecopower 2200 is suitable for ponds up to 2200 litres.

Water enters the unit and passes close to a UV-lamp, separated from it by a quartz sleeve. UV Light makes algae clump together so it can be caught by the foam.

Water leaves the UV chamber via a spray head, which aerates the water for a high oxygen content.

Solid particles in the water are trapped on a foam sheet. Almost solids free, the water passes through plastic biomedia where beneficial bacteria cleanse pollutants. The amount of biomedia contained in the filter increases in proportion to the size of filter/pond.
