Cyprio Green Machine Pond Biofilter Started Pond Filter Revolution

Hozelock bought the Cyprio company about 11 years ago in 1994 or thereabouts. Cyprio were probably responsible  for the most effective pond filter marketing campaign ever staged at that period in the history of pond keeping developments. A chemical engineer whose name I cannot remember introduced a few well thought out modifications to traditional box filters and then proceeded to market heavily the concept of clean and clear water guarantees that could be obtained by using the right pond filter in conjunction with ultra violet light. Cyprio called their box type biofilters "Green Machines". The success of these filters was the result of excellent brand marketing rather than revolutionary filter design.

Hozelock have built upon this concept and introduced much better filters since (Bioforce, Ecomax, Ecocel, and one of the most recent the all in one pump, UVC, and filter called The Easyclear) then and they have added significantly to the clearwater approach to water gardening and fish pond keeping.

The Cyprio Green Machine is an above ground pond filter. It was designed to have effective mechanical and biological filtration with good oxygenation, and was marketed as suitable for larger ponds as well as small garden fish ponds. It was stated that Green Machine pond filters worked well when used on large ponds because they have a higher relative proportion of biomedia to water volume flow rate. Green machines if accompanied by an UVC (ultra violet light clarifier or sterilizer) will provide good clean clear healthy water quality and maintain stocks of healthy goldfish or koi in all garden fish ponds. The Green Machines incorporate brushes, open cell foam and plastic biomedia combinations of bio and mechanical filtration techniques into a compact box. The Green Machine are easy to clean.

Fish ponds typically have a much higher percentage of nutrients per volume of water than natural lakes and rivers. These higher concentrations of nutrients results in higher levels of ammonia and nitrites being present in the pond. These are potentially lethal to your gold fish and koi.
