This pond liner material can be cut from rolls to any length required. It's available in 4 widths - 2m, 4m, 6m and 8m. The Hozelock pond liner is suitable for outdoor and indoor use.

how to estimate the size of a flexible liner

In order to choose a flexible liner you need you know the maximum length of the pond, the maximum width and the maximum depth of the pond you wish to create. You also need to make adjustments to cater for extreme shapes as described below.

In general you must add twice the MAXIMUM depth to both the MAXIMUM length and MAXIMUM width of the pond. Once you have done this then add a further 50cm to the length and the width in order to cater for 25cm overlap all round that will be buried underneath the final edging material (note the last bit of edging must always be turned upwards to prevent capillary action sucking water from the pond when it is overfilled.)

The minimum depth of any garden fish pond should be to be 18inches to 2ft or half a metre.

Build a garden pond with a simple shape and make sure you avoid sharp corners in your chosen shape as these take up significant pond liner material.

If you do have extreme curves inwards on the shape like a traditional scallop type shape on measure around the shape to allow for the extra liner you will need.

• A pond 4m x 3m, and 0.6m deep would require a liner:

• Length: 4 + 1.2 + 0.5 = 5.7m long

• Width: 3 + 1.2+ 0.5 = 4.7m wide

• I suggest you make it 6 m x 5 metre
