Hozelock Trinamic & Kaldnes Pond Filter System ... Models 12500 & 20000
To brush up on the essential requirements for good water quality and effective pond filtration for any type of fish pond click the article link shown.
Hozelock Trinamic is the state of the art world class pond filter
system. It will make a dramatic improvement to water quality in any fish
pond.
Advanced Pond Filtration Made Simple With Hozelock Trinamic
A new (2006 Spring) high performance bio filter for ponds containing high fish stock densities and ponds up to 12,500 litres or 3,000 gallons. The Hozelock Trinamic is available as a filter alone or a combined Hozelock Trinamic with a Hozelock Titan 8000 solids handling or dirty water pump as well as a Vortron 18 watts UV system ensuring crystal clear water. 40 mm pipe recommended.
There is also the Trinamic model 20000 for ponds up to 20,000 litres or 5,000 gallons.
The Trinamic filter includes the modern and effective biofilter medium called Kaldnes. The medium Kaldnes invented by a Norwegian professor for use in fish farming and sewage treatment plants functions on a moving bed (agitation or turbulent) principle that allows good contact between food oxygen and bacteria in the pond filter.
The rapidly agitated moving bed of Kaldnes works as follows in the Hozelock Trinamic
Water enters the pond filter box at high velocity and this high turbulent flow rate induces random and rapid movement between the small plastic Kaldnes "cylinders" which at all times remain submersed in oxygen enriched water creating the most intimate contact possible between living bacteria on the Kaldnes surface and the food source (ammonia) and oxygen. The water enters the Hozelock Trinamic via a venturi which then allows more air to be sucked into this "cauldron" of moving biomedia. Read about the importance of contact between food oxygen and bacteria here and see the image I've created to help explain.

Because there is constant movement of the biomedia (Kaldnes) inside the Hozelock Trinamic biofilter box this allows those beneficial bacteria sitting on the surface of the Kaldnes to always have a fresh food supply (ammonia and nitrite contained in the water) and fresh oxygen also dissolved in the water. This represents the ideal chemical engineering characteristics for conversion of ammonia and nitrite to less harmful nitrates.
The moving Kaldnes also has another advantage in that the weaker or dying bacteria get dislodged from the Kaldnes and are trapped n the foam modules of the biofilter. Pond sludge can be drained through the bottom exit valve. The sponges are cleaned using an incorporated plunger to squeeze the foams and force the collected debris out of the sponge.
The high efficiency of this biofiltration process enable the Hozelock Trinamic biofilter to be built into in a much smaller casing which in turn allows for the filter to be hidden far more easily.
In the Hozelock Trinamic denitrification chamber is included and this allows much lower levels of nitrate to be experienced than in all other types of pond filter systems. To remove nitrates from normal pond water systems either lots of plants are needed or water is changed regularly. The dentrification chamber in the Hozelock Trinamic is a relatively still area where there is a low level of oxygen in the water. This reduced oxygen level allows a special anaerobic bacteria system to form and in turn these bacteria convert dissolved nitrates into nitrogen gas and this goes into the atmosphere.

An important feature of the Hozelock Titan pumps is the ability to pump solid particles up to 10mm in diameter without blocking us the flow into the pump.
Titan pumps 2000 and 3000 use the electric motor from the mid range famous Hozelock low power consumption Cascade pump series. These pumps provide great performance and incur very low running costs.
