Calculate the right waterfall flow for a good looking waterfall

Basic Instructions On The Spreadsheet

Water flowing over waterfall lip Read the right volume of water you need for a good looking waterfall from this calculator. All you need to know is width of the overflow point (lip). If you have more than 1 waterfall add the two lip widths together. If your waterfall is split into more than 1 section add the section widths together. If you find your flow too small place a few pebbles close to lip and break up flow.  ...  Calculate the right waterfall flow for a good looking waterfall

In the picture here you'll see a waterfall with a single lip. The width of this lip is 10 inches and the water flow is about 3,000 litres per hour (790 US gallons per hour or 940 Imperial gallons per hour). The waterfall inlet is 35 cm (15 inches) above the pond surface. Notice the degree of aeration where the water cascades onto the pond surface.
